Stilewood Blog - 7 Questions with Alan Swanson

Meet Alan Swanson, Sierra Pacific Window’s architectural consultant for Western Canada. Alan has over 30 years of experience in the window industry and works extensively with the Stilewood team to ensure that we know everything there is to know about the U.S. manufacturer.

We figured that instead of teaching us about Sierra Pacific, Alan could answer a few questions about himself!

  1. When and how did you get into the window and door business?

30 years ago. I started selling wood windows for retro-fit work, I quickly realized that I really enjoyed working with wood products. I then pursued a career as an architectural consultant in the window industry and never looked back!

  2. What’s your favorite part about the job?

It’s hard to put into words. I love seeing the finished work installed, and particularly the happy faces on my clients. Windows make a big difference aesthetically and emotionally in any structure, and I’ve yet to meet/work with anyone who has been unhappy when their project was complete.

  3. What would be the most amazing adventure to go on?

I would tour China. It would be fascinating to see the lifestyle differences.

  4. What song have you completely memorized?

In my life - The Beatles. Back in the day I was a drummer for a rock band. After that I became a singles act and played the acoustic guitar in lounges for a few years.

  5. When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with?

Mostly they want my opinion and insight on big life decisions.

  6. What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation on (besides Sierra Pacific Windows)?

Building hot rods, I’ve built three. My dad and I built a 1929 Ford Roadster with all original parts. It took about 5 years to complete and then we entered it into a roadster show where we came first place! It was our first show too.

  7. What’s your favorite hobby?

Riding my motorcycle. I love my custom Victory bike!
