Stilewood Blog - With Purity Design, Stilewood created a perfect home – and it all started with a couple holding opposing ideas!

 

A recent Stilewood project illustrates how, even when a couple disagrees about home design, it is possible to accommodate both their perspectives in an imaginative, innovative way.

As featured on Global News, Lisa Coveney wanted a traditional cosy, warm, comfortable home. By contrast, husband Chris Young envisioned West Coast contemporary, with lots of glass, open rooms, clean lines. But wouldn’t that, Coveney worried, mean a cold, cavernous feel?

Working together, Stilewood and Sydney Carlaw, principal designer at the award-winning Purity Designs, married both visions. The completed house has warm, classic elements, such as a walnut floor and big fireplace. Meanwhile, big windows give out on to nature, providing stunning views.

The design blends fun into the mix, with a colourful twisting-tunnel slide in the treehouse-themed playroom, and an indoor sports park in the basement, where the family plays dodgeball, basketball and more. As Coveney says, it’s a home that gives happiness now and will provide their children with lifelong good memories.

Here are some of the home’s many innovative highlights

Custom interior doors:

• door material: quarter-cut walnut doors and frames
• design: flush architectural solid core with sketch face and 3/16” x 3/32” grooves (highly custom)
• door thickness: 1-¾”
• heavy duty hardware
• custom pre-finishing done by Stilewood.

 

 

Entrance door:

• door material: quarter cut walnut doors and frame
• design: horizontal plank with grooves
• door thickness: 2 ¼”
• profile: #1 edge
• hardware: heavy duty GU multi-point hardware and black Pemko gear hinges
• custom pre-finishing done by Stilewood.

 

 

Windows:

• thermally broken fixed and operating aluminum windows
• glass: double low-e ultra-clear glass
• window color: bronze anodized.

 

 

 

Exterior sliding door system:

• thermally broken aluminum
• glass: double low-e ultra-clear glass
• window color: dark bronze anodized.
